How Old is WOLF Architects?

As we celebrate a quarter-century of contemporary design, it’s natural to reflect on the evolution of WOLF Architects. Presently, we are a well-established architectural practice registered across multiple states in Australia, with a portfolio boasting over 200 projects both locally and internationally. For the last two decades, we have consistently pushed boundaries and led the way in contemporary design concepts. However, our journey to becoming a leading architectural firm wasn’t always this way.

A Journey of Evolution

The name WOLF Architects itself has been around for approximately 15 years. Before that, we operated under WOLF Designs for around a decade. WOLF Designs was an evolution of another company called Tomahawk Designs, which focused primarily on graphic design and commercial artworks. Founded by Taras Wolf, who was well-recognised for his artistic pursuits, the company was built on a foundation of creativity. Taras spent several years exploring fine art, painting and sculpture, selling his works through galleries and exhibitions in an era before online selling and social media.

From Art to Architecture

Venturing into architecture was a natural expansion for Taras Wolf, leading to the adoption of the WOLF name around 20 years ago. With the slogan “The Art in Architecture,” we embraced a vision where buildings were not only perfectly practical but also beautiful. Achieving this vision required a team of designers with both technical intelligence and a strong artistic sensibility.

A Legacy of Design Innovation

Our history goes back even further. Taras Wolf is the third generation in a family with a rich tradition of property development and design. Innovative design has been a family hallmark dating back to the 1980s, with incredible projects by his father in Southeast Asia. Some of the earliest works by Taras in the 1990s, built in Bangkok and Melbourne, are still often showcased as examples of timeless design.

A Milestone Year

In conclusion, WOLF Architects is a firm steeped in a strong history, built on artistry, experience and expertise. The WOLF name has been going for approximately 25 years and this year we proudly celebrate 20 years as an official architectural practice.
